Has anyone used this SATA controller card?  It says its based on the Silicon Image 3114 chip so basically it should be about as good as any other based on the same card, right?  I was looking to install two of these since they're so cheap, for current and future expansion.

Also, I have an SATA drive currently being used by WHS in an external USB enclosure.  If I was to take it out of the enclosure and just stick it into an internal bay, would there be any issues?

  • There is no reason why it won't work. You will have to install the drivers, WHS won't recognise it otherwise. Don't forget though, that it is only a SATA-150, for future-proofing, you really should go for a SATA-300, as just about all hard drives sold today work with that standard.

There should be no problems at all, removing an external drive and then connecting it internally.

  • I have one plugged in for the non-pooled drives .. works fine. The drivers auto-installed with windows update.
