Just reloaded OEM version, now can't validate RRS feed

  • Question

  • I just reloaded my PC from the ground up.

Right now all it has on it is the version of Windows XP that I purchased with the PC (from Dell).  My plan was to update to XP service pack 2 as my first step... but alas, it's not passing validation from the Microsoft Update site.  Game over.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks in advance,

    Copa

While the re-install of windows was running I was not sitting at the keyboard.  The install never stopped on the screen to enter the CD key... I never entered any key number during the install.

I found that to be odd, so I used the WGA Diagnostic tool (link from Phil Liu's sticky).  The Diagnostic said that the copy was "Genuine" at the top.. but the key number was nothing that I recognized.

I launched the key change utility (also linked in that sticky) and successfully changed the key.

Still no luck on the Microsoft Update validation check... still fails.

Here's the error message that I get:

Why didn’t my machine complete validation?
