System partition on a small-size SSD RRS feed

  • Question

  • Is it possible to setup a System partition on a small-size (~8-16 GB) SSD and use a normal HDDs for data? Will it work after installing on HDD first and then copying System partition to SSD (with less than 20 GB space)? Are any speciall changes required?

Right now I have around 15 GB free on System partition, so what's the point of it being a 20 GB?

  • No, it's not supported to separate the OS partition from the primary data partition in the way you want. While it might be possible for you to do it anyway, since Windows Home Server expects the C: and D: partitions to share space on a hard drive, you would potentially be unable to restore your server in case of a problem (e.g. OS corruption).

The system drive is 20 GB to allow a small amount of room for additional software, expansion, logs, etc.
