  • Try the solution that Tivo Fool has working for him in this thread - http://forums.microsoft.com/WindowsOneCare/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=2665103&SiteID=2

The update is currently in testing and per the information in this post, http://forums.microsoft.com/WindowsOneCare/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=2707364&SiteID=2, is due around the 31st of January.

  • Steve and Tivo Fool -- I don't find winssui.exe in my Services list -- OneCare is winss.exe.  But, I do find winssui.exe (version 2.0.2500, 12/11/07) on my hard drive, and searching for definition on the web, it does say it is a OneCare component.  Looking at properties on the winssui.exe file just names it as Windows Live One Care, which is how winss.exe is described in the Services list.

I don't find an option for "Automatic (Delayed)" in the Services properties interface (double clicked on service) -- just Automatic, Manual and Disabled.

    I'm running XP Home, SP2.

BTW, I removed NetMagic, PCTools, and another spy tool, and tried your earlier suggestions, Steve, but nothing has helped with this problem with OC ver. 2 not starting on reboot.  Only manual start from Services works.  I also tried the MS OC virus and spyware repair.

Also, for what it's worth, OC ver 2. doesn't have this on my Vista Premium running on another computer!  I hope the Jan 31 or whenever "update to the update" fixes the problem -- One Care continues to consume tremendous amounts of time trying to make it work!

    Thanks for your help.

  • Hi, Pat. My fingers are crossed that the 1/31 update is released on time (or early) and that it resolves this startup issue for you and so many others!
