  • Hi,

There are lots of differences between CRM 4.0 and CRM 2011. Again There are few differences between CRM 2011 on premises and CRM online 2011.

In my advise you should go for CRM 2011 online (cloud) if you want to save money on having your own CRM team, hardware and software. As everything is taken care by Microsoft dedicated team of CRM specialists. Also the database is backed up constantly. You don't have to invest in buying servers and software. You also don't have to invest in hiring many crm professionals.

Again CRM 2011 online have few differences as compared to having CRM on your office campus (on premises). One i already mentioned above in SSRS. The other is the way you run your plugins. Plugings have to be run in sandbox mode. The third is you cannot have any custom workflow activity on the cloud. You can have workflows but not any custom .NET based workflow activity.

Have a read through my own blog on "Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 – Limitations of Dynamics CRM Online Vs On Premises":

  • Hi,

You are trying to compare CRM 4 and CRM cloud. When you say CRM cloud, does it mean, CRM Online 2011 version?

One major difference is the queries. CRM 4 on premesis, you can write SSRS reports with TSQL embedded and they call the CRM filtered views.

On cloud, you are not given access to the CRM SQL Server database. So on cloud SSRS reports work using FetchXML. FetchXML based SSRS reports is a new feature of CRM 2011. You cannot have filtered views based SSRS reports work in CRM cloud.

I hope this helps. If my response answered your question, please mark the response as an answer and also vote as helpful.
