Is there a way to run WHS Console when not connected to the local network

Question
-
I'm going to be away from home and will access shared folders on my server over the Internet. I would like to be able to run the Console so I could launch a backup of the server after changing files and uploading them back to the server. Any way to do that?Monday, November 21, 2011 10:45 PM

Yes, just log in via your remote access website. Goto the Computers Tab and you should see your server listed - this gives access to the Console unlike supported clients (i.e. XP Home) where you see the computer desktop.

Do you have Remote Internet Access set up - if so you can do it from there.

Yes, I do, but I have only used it to access shared folders on the server. I have not used it to control a workstation on the home network. I do normally have one connected laptop running XP Home that I leave running even while away, but I don't know if that PC can be controlled remotely.
I just looked and see that XP Home can't be controlled remotely. ;-(

I thought you wanted to control your Server, not a Client. Yes you are correct, the Home versions of XP, Vista & W7 do not have Remote Desktop Connection capability.

I have logged on but there is no Computers tab. I must have not properly configured something.
I found it. I normally run Firefox. I needed IE to get the Computers tab. I am in and ran the Console on the server. Thanks for your help.
