OEM System Builder or volume licensing? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello everyone,

I am looking into starting a small business, most likely building custom PC's and upgrading/installing OS on laptops. My inventory is going to be low at first most likely 3-4 PC's and the same for laptops. I know gaining a system builder competency is not required but it will help, how do I find this? Also I have not seen a definite answer on where to obtain OEM System builder software, I've seen it on 3rd part websites like Amazon and Newegg but does MS offer it? Also with my low volume would it be better to stick with system builder OS or volume licensing? I've been building PC's for many years for myself and for friends/family and would like to expand but I want to give my customers the piece of mind that I'm not just some hack that went and bought software and installed it and said I was MS certified. I don't know if this would be included in this forum or even this site but I was also interested in becoming a certified refurbisher. I would like to refurbish PC's as well as XBox 360's, again I have fixed a few out of warranty systems but for resale I would like to be able to say that I am certified. Thank you!!!

  • Hi,

I think (most of) this question will fit better to another forum - http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-us/categories/

For licensing questions you should better ask a licensing expert, because this is an area for itself.

The exams which should be far away from this (but the most appropriate ones) are the support technician exams - http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en/us/certification/mcitp.aspx#tab2 - but I don't think that they will give you the value you're looking for (like the name said they are more for support technicians and OS-related things).

  • Thank you, I think I am going to look into the Microsoft Office Specialist exam, I'll look around but should I try to post my question for a licensing expert or is there a more direct route? Thank you again!!
