so i create a view containing the AccountId, Account Name, Owner export it to an excel sheet update them and try to import them back using the data migration manager (as the lookup fileds are not supported to be updated using the data migration wizard) but when i start uploding the file the following error occured:

  • Your best bet is probably a tool like this:

    http://mscrmbulkupdatetool.codeplex.com/

Even if you can't mass-update the owner field directly, you could create a new attribute, mass update that and then have a workflow change the owner based on the attribute value automatically.

  • Change the owners 250 at a time through the standard interfface clicking on the icon of the head with an arrow coming out of the neck.

  • The problem is that i want to assign each record to an owner different from the other

so i cannot repeat this process 1000 times for the 1000 records

is there anyway to update the owners using the data import wizard or the data migration manager ?????

    thx in advance

  • If you performthis action the way you are trying you can turn off the duplicate checking although you can change the owner using the Assign button from any of the Account views (as Leon mentions) though the only reason you would receive this message is if you are actually creating accounts rather then updating them. You can also use the Import Tool from the main CRM toolbar and as long as you specify the account id from your csv file to link to the accountid field of the account entity during the mapping stage then you should be updating rather then trying to create. If you do not modify your exporting column headings then the mapping should be automatically performed for you anyway.

I'm fairly sure that the DMM will always set the owner to the user performing the import regardless of your data.
