An alert "Windows Aero is not working" - "You may be a victim of software counterfeiting" keeps popping up and vista has stopped functioning properly. Trying to validate it, it says its not genuine, although I can't find an error code.
The diagnostic tool results:

I've tried running net start slsvc in the command prompt, but I get : Error 1313: A Specified privilige does not exist.
Followed this support doc http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;931573
and tried to install the update, but it says its not applicable to my system.
Also tried this, cscript %windir%\System32\slmgr.vbs /ilc %windir%\System32\licensing\ppdlic\Security-Licensing-SLC-ppdlic.xrm-ms, in the command prompt, but it says file does not exist.
Please help, as it is the only thing my laptop is good for now is surfing the internet.Wednesday, January 30, 2008 12:59 PM

Hi,
The error code 0x80070426 (shown in the Diagnostic Report) tells me that the Software Licensing Service has stopped (no indication as to why). Vista uses this service to check itself to confirm that it is Genuine, so when it's not running, Vista throws errors. Normally I would provide you the below steps to try and restart the service. Even though you have stated you have already tried the "net start slsvc" command, you may want to follow the full steps that I have provided. If you have acces to the Start button:
1) Click the Start button
2) Type: cmd in the Start Search field
3) At the top the Start window, you will see cmd.exe
4) Right Click cmd.exe and select Run as Administrator
5) Type: net start slsvc
If you do not have access to the Start button:
1) Click the option Access computer with reduced functionality
2) A Browser will open, type: %windir%\system32 into the address field
3) Find the file cmd.exe
4) Right Click on the cmd.exe and select Run as Administrator
5) Type: net start slsvc
If this does not resolve your issue or if you receive any errors when running the above command, please create a (no cost) support request at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52029 for additional assistance in starting that service. (make sure you tell them you have already tried the net start slsvc steps, so they won't just give you the same steps as I have given).
Note: Your Diagnostic Report also shows that your copy of Microsoft Office FrontPage 2003 was install using a VLK key belonging to a Large Software company in Washington state. This key was leaked to the internet and has since been blocked. Please uninstall this Office product immediately and contact the peron or company that sold you this Office Product and Demand the Genuine Microsoft software, that you paid for...or at least a refund.
I also encourage you to submit a Piracy Report at http://www.microsoft.com/piracy/
Thank you,
Darin Smith
