Remote access not avaiable on WHS RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi

My evaluton copy of WHS was about to expiry,  I purchase a OEM copy of whs.  So I decide to format drive and reinstall whs as a fresh copy (bg mstake).  Install fine and am able to access server within my home environment, includng my web pages.  I can't access my web pages out on the Internet.

I went to the whs settng> remote control and remote access say it not avalable.  II click on repair and it came back with "a local web server or firewall may have occured".

I check the windows firewall setting and exceptions set for http (980, 5500) https (9443, 5600) port8080, whs computer backup, whs transport service (1138), windows media connect (10243,10280,10281,10282) and UPun frameworl (tcp 2869 udp 19000).

Have done nothing to my router, but the following ports are forward 8080, 3306, 80, 443, 53, 5500,5800,5900, 4899

I do have internet access from whs (which IIi added ths problem from)
    Any ideas what I miss?

  • You don't say where you tested from, but many consumer routers have problems "looping back" to their external WAN address from inside their local network. So you should try from somewhere off-site if you haven't yet.

As for ports to forward, Windows Home Server Remote Access requires ports 80, 443, and 4125 to be forwarded to your server. While you say ports 80 and 442 are shown as forwarded in your router, I would guess that they're being sent to a machine other than your server.
I'm not on the WHS team, I just post a lot. :)
