Does it matter which port your plugged into (eg. switching around drives) ? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm curious ... I have a fairly large WHS and I'm planning on upgrading various drives in the near future... once a hard drive is plugged in and has data on it does it matter at all which sata port it is plugged into on the machine ? or does it just record a guid of the hdd and go off that ?

  • You should generally make sure your system drive is connected so it will be the first drive presented for booting, in case you need to go through a server reinstallation due to an issue such as a failed system drive. Other than that, it usually doesn't matter.

I'm not on the WHS team, I just post a lot. :)
