Thread Preview: Is it Useful? RRS feed

  • Question

  • We have a feature today in forums called "thread preview". Basically, when you go to any forum you can click a little expand collapse icon to the left of the thread title. When you do this, the thread opens letting you participate in the thread inline without having to actually navigate to the thread, take a page load, lose forum thread context from the previous page.

Question for you all...Is this useful? Do you use it?

Note: there is a bug in the feature so if you are looking at My Threads or other multi forum thread views the threads from cross brands don't work. We realize this and are looking at that problem.

In the meantime, any verbatims on this feature, whether you find it useful, how it could be more useful would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for everyone's input in advance.

  • Its useful.. but I don't use it that often. It makes it slightly more convenient to respond in a thread and not loose track of where you are or when you just want to glance at a thread to see if its worth investigating further. Many other forums dont have this so I keep forgetting to use it when I come here.

All the time.   In fact essentially the only time I open threads in their own tab from a message list is when I need to open threads which are large.   (My tolerance for "large" varies.)  Another case where I always use them is after a Browse Forums Users search.

    Yes.   Please fix that.

I have already made the suggestion that when a redirect doesn't work e.g. when Quote is attempted would you please make some extra effort not to make the recovery lose my place?   That is really annoying.

I also recently remarked somewhere that in the case of alerts you should allow the Alert icon to actually allow the alert status to be modified and not just used as another method of doing ExpCol.   Doing that would make the My Alerts list much more functional.

  • Yes, I use it all the time. Please also add the functionality to toggle alerts on or off.
