The troubles with my Wixnxp Home RRS feed

  • General discussion

  •  Yesterday I installed winxp wxppc, thinking it was wxp home but found out later it was my nieces software winxp pro.I purchased 2 copies of windows. One home and one pro for 2 different computers. When I purchased the software I did not think I was going to have this much trouble. The product key fail once twice ,something not right here.Well I formatted the drive again, clean installs better,ya right.Same thing happened,my eyes don't see good. The vv looked like a w to me.Thats v v not w and boy the v looked like a y,bad eyes.Anyway finally put winxp home on instead.I activated by phone no problem then update puts genuine tool on says not valid. Oh I'm fuming now took two days to do this and have to do again bull.I'll go back to 98SE first.By the way Winxp has problems I now there still patching but to stop support in October,a little soon don't you think.

  • Raw,

Please follow these steps for assistance:

Step 1 is to download and run the utility at this link http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012, then click the Windows tab, Copy to Clipboard, then paste the report into a response in this section of the forum:  http://forums.microsoft.com/Genuine/ShowForum.aspx?ForumID=442&SiteID=25  The section of the forum you are in now is only for Feedback and Comments.

Step 2 is to look on the computer or with the materials you received with the computer or with Windows to see if you have a Certificate of Authenticty (COA).  If you have one, tell us about the COA.  Tell us:

    1.  What edition of Windows XP is it for, Home, Pro, or Media Center?

    2.  Does it read "OEM Software" or "OEM Product" in black lettering?

    3.  Or, does it have the computer manufacturer's name in black lettering?

    4.  DO NOT post the Product Key.

Not sure what to look for?  See this page for reference:  http://www.microsoft.com/resources/howtotell/en/coa.mspx
