  • waterstone,

    Try the following:

    1. Reboot your computer into "Safe Mode".

    2. Go to Start > Run and type: %systemroot%\system32 then press the Enter key.

    3. Locate these two files: wpa.dbl and wpa.bak

    4. Rename the wpa.dbl file to wpaold.dbl and wpa.bak to wpaold.bak

    5. Reboot your computer into Normal mode.

    This should force activation.

    thanks,

  • Thanks Derrick.

I followed your instruction and there came notice that the windows is activated.

But, still when trying to get windows update, this message 'Windows Activation Required. Windows must be activated in order to determine if the Windows product key installed on this computer is genuine' appears and cannot get the updates.

    Do you have any suggestions?

    Thanks.

  • I can tell you that every Microsoft website I go to to try and get support for this issue is not surprisingly trying to get me to upgrade to windows 7. MAYBE they are randomly picking customers by making it a hassle to resolve this problem so that the customer will go ahead and buy the new Windows 7 or Windows Vista because support for Windows XP  will end in 2014 and they don't want to deal with that all at one time. Therefore they are making money off of the customer and at the same time easing their issues they have to deal with in 2014. I'm just saying...........MAYBE.......It could happen.  Are we being Targeted ? hmmmm.
