Error: Failed to start Live Mesh. RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi, my Live Mesh is failing with the above error message. Is there a way to reinstall?

    I'm on Windows Server 2003.

Note that i was running Folder Share but uninstalled it as I wanted to move to Live Mesh synch instead.
Could this have damaged Live Mesh?

I can also see this error in the event log:

    Event Type: Error
    Event Source: DCOM
    Event Category: None
    Event ID: 10000
    Date:  19/10/2008
    Time:  17:22:49
    User:  N/A
    Computer: VSI
    Description:
Unable to start a DCOM Server: {27FFBBFB-4F8B-4A0A-ABBD-9DAE4CDB7F13}. The error:
"A close operation is pending on the session. "
    Happened while starting this command:
    "C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator.DC2\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Live Mesh\GacBase\Moe.exe" -Embedding

    Thanks,
    Sime

  • Hi Sime,

Windows Server 2003 is not a supported OS for Live Mesh at this time.  One of our support people would like to take a look at your logs, however, and might be able to offer some advice.  If you could, please collect your Live Mesh logs (Start Menu > All Programs > Live Mesh > Collect Live Mesh Logs, which will generate a .cab file on your desktop) and send them, ATTN: Tim, to lmprev@microsoft.com.

    Thanks,

    Ben.

  • I'm betting your Log files were larger then 10MB in size.  The mailbox will reject it if it is.

If that is indeed the case, you can do the following:

    Open: C:\Users\<login name>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Live Mesh\GacBase
Delete any Moe*.log that are older then 10/27.
Re-run the Collect Live Mesh Logs.

Strange ... I am using Live Mesh for a while under the following OS (all 32bit) Without any problems!!
    • Vista Ultimate
    • Vista Home Premium
    • Windows Server 2003 SP2
    • Windows Mobile 6 Pro (PIE)
Sync worked! Everything OK! Since at my workplace I am using the Windows Server 2003 machine I had to reboot it (MS update as far I can remember ...). After that reboot Mesh fails to start. It says Connecting ... but nothing happens ... (hangs ...)

Why should Mesh not be supported under Windows Server 2003!? If so I would expect that the installer fails ... (like installing Live Writer etc.

To put this in other words: I installed Mesh directly from the mesh homepage (so I am sure that no patch etc. was applied to the installer) on Windows Server 2003 without any problems. After some weeks it stopped working ...

    Hi,

Live Mesh does not currently support any Server SKU installations, though that does not mean you can't install it (as you've noticed).  We have a number of different bugs, though, that manifest as failures to start.  And, unfortunately, in many of those cases the problem can just appear suddenly (as it seems to have done in your case - sometimes people get lucky and it disappears just as suddenly).  We are, of course, working on resolving as many of these issues as we can, as quickly as we can.  If you wouldn't mind, could you please open a bug and attach the logs from your Windows Server 2003 computer?  Instructions for submitting a bug are in an Announcement at the top of the forums.  Please let me know if you have any questions.

    Thanks,

    Ben.

  • I too was using Mesh on server (2008 for me) and it randomly stopped working. I have emailed my logs to the address provided above, hopefully they will be helpful!

  • As the lights go out over the network... Slowly my workstations are falling off Live Mesh. Two of five are now sending failed to connect messages and I'm waiting for the other low traffic systems to start falling off. I've searched for solutions and reinstalled my little heart out but to no avail. Am I forced to wait until Google do this reliably without as much graphic elegance or does someone in MS have a fix?

If your machines all dropped off the Mesh and they have not recovered *and* you have no other network issues, please file a bug. it is possible that there was a back end problem earlier today or even a network routing issue on the Internet. Please keep in mind that this *is* a beta so things can fail.
