activation ???

Question
-
when i go to start, run and enter oobe/msoobe /a. it brings up the windows product activation screen and tells me that my windows is already activated.
my windows update will not let me install updates as it says windows did not pass genuine validation.
i use http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/downloads/nonGenuine.aspx?displaylang=en&cCode=AUS&Error=3&PartnerID=103&sGuid=c9e5e7f0-fdf4-41f1-9dc7-071aa893025e&submit=1 and click on "use the validation advisor"
enter my product key and follow questions. and then it always brings up "A network error or timeout has occurred while processing your request. Please try again later". i have been trying it for days and i am still getting the same error message coming up.
i have used the the diagnostics page located at http://www.microsoft.com/Genuine/diag/RunDiags.aspx?displayLang=en and it has passed all tests.
i have been using the same windows key for years. any time i re-install windows on my computer i use the same cd and same key. i have never had this problem before.
what can i do to fix this. i need to update my computer.
thankyou

Chad,
You may have to activate by phone @ this point. Probably you have exceeded the amount of times which you are permitted to activate.
To contact a Microsoft customer service representative to activate Windows by phone, follow these steps:
1.
Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click Activate Windows.
Or, click the Windows Activation icon in the notification area.2.
Click Yes, I want to telephone a customer service representative to active Windows now.
3.
Click Read the Windows Product Activation Privacy Statement, click Back, and then click Next.
4.
Follow the steps in the Activate Windows by phone dialog box, and then click Next.
Note The number appears now and differs based on the location that you select.5.
When activation is completed and you receive the following message, click OK.
You have successfully activated your copy of Windows.
More information on how to activate Windows XP at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307890
Also you may reference the following site for various telephone activation centers: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/326851
After you finish the above steps please restart the computer and try to validate Windows again: http://www.microsoft.com/genuine. Please locate the “Validate Windows” button in the upper right hand corner. Double click on the button and follow the guidance. Were you able to pass Windows Validation successfully? Please post again if you need further assistance. Thank you.

hi
thankyou for the reply. i have already got that information from the microsoft site. this is not my problem
as mentioned the screen you are telling me to bring up """
1.
Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click Activate Windows.
tells me that windows is already activated. press ok to exit. it has nothing else on that screen, nothing.
my problem is that i cannot update windows using windows update. it says my windows has failed genuine validation and i may be a victim of software counterfeiting. it will not let me update at all. and when i click on this star i have in the toolbar next to the clock it comes up with a network error when i try to validate the key.
