Unable to see application icon in Taskbar with Windows 10 Pro RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello -

I am experiencing a peculiar bug with Windows 10 Pro. My Win forms application does not show application icon in Taskbar if I launch my application as Standard User.

When I am launching the application as Administrator, app icon shown. I did not experience the same behavior with other Windows Versions though I launch my application as a standard user.

I have even tried installing my application on various locations where a user does not need administrator right. I have even tried to give full access to everyone for the installed folder. I am using InstallAware for building the installer.

Can someone let me know, am I missing anything here? Did anyone experience the same issue with their apps?

Please let me know if you need any information on this.

  • I suppose your application icon is simply hidden. Check it, by right-clicking task bar.

  • Hi NaveenBezawada,

Could you insert screenshots both blank grey image and icon, or share them via cloud storage such as OneDrive, Dropbox, etc?

    # Later, I will try to signin as a standard user and check it.

  • Thank you for providing screenshots.
Where it (icon of your software) is?
I guess it is pinned in Task Bar, i.e. it is an icon to be executed.

    # I do not have a standard user account in my Windows. Please wait.

  • Hi,

I have just add an account as standard user, and cannot reproduce your issue.

When you create a shortcut of your application, how is it seen?  Do you see an icon image normally?
If not, please delete icon cache:
    C:\users\<your account>\AppData\Local\IconCache.db

  • I have exactly the same issue after Fall update. No windows icons on taskbar and also no image preview - thumbnails. I've deleted the IconCache.db but that didn't do anything. I also rebooted multiple times and checked the Windows Store for updates but no success.

  • Though I have deleted IconCache.db and restarted my machine, I did not see any difference.

  • Hello -

Do you see this issue only when you launch any application as standard user or even when you launch as app an administrator too?

  • Hi,

    Thank you for providing screenshots.
If you create a new account (Standard User), how your issue will change?

  • Hi Ashidacchi-

creating standard user will not solve my problem. I need to make it work for all standard users.

  • Hi NaveenBezawada,

Do you have several accounts (Standard User) in ONE computer?

  • This is a windows forms application and this issue happens only for my application, thats why I have posted here. Should I post this back in Windows System forum.

  • I do have 2 users, Though I am an administrator, I will not launch application with administrator privileges .

If I right click on app shortcut,  open -> icon does not display

If I right click on app shortcut, open app as Administrator -> Icon shown on taskbar.

  • Hi NaveenBezawada,

According to your description, it would be an issue specifically related to your application.
It is a Windows Forms application, isn't it?
Please check if ICON is valid, or re-create it and set on Application Icon.

  • Did you create a new icon and use it in Visual Studio?
Or you can get an icon from http://www.iconarchive.com/, please use it.

  • Sorry, I might have made a wrong direction.
The place where an icon file is set is not in Project, but in Form (Designer View).

Please try download an icon file from http://www.iconarchive.com/, and set it the place shown in the above screenshot.
