Windows did not pass Genuine Win validation blah, blah RRS feed

  • Question

  • My version of windows was fine until I installed some recent updates.  Now I keep getting a message upon startup stating that This copy of Windows did not pass Genuine Windows validation etc.  Then there is a buble in the lower right corner stating that This copy of Windows is not activated etc.  If I try to activate, it says that it is already activated.  If I click on resolve now, nothing happens.  I went to www.microsoft.com/genuine/diag and everything passed.  So I ran the WGA Diagnostic Tool and this is what I got;

  • PM Barrett,

    Please activate Windows XP by calling a Microsoft customer service representative. The Activation Wizard displays the toll free number that you can dial.

    To contact a Microsoft customer service representative and activate Windows by phone, follow these steps:

    1. Click “Start”, point to” All Programs”, point to “Accessories”, point to” System Tools”, and then click “Activate Windows”.
    Or, click the Windows Activation icon in the notification area.

    2. Click Yes, I want to telephone a customer service representative to active Windows now.

    3. Click “Read the Windows Product Activation Privacy Statement”, click “Back”, and then click “Next”
    .
    4. Follow the steps in the Activate Windows by phone dialog box and then click “Next”.
    Note:  The number appears now and differs based on the location that you select.

    5. Once activation is completed and you receive the following message, click “OK”.
    You have successfully activated your copy of Windows.
