Scheduling Live Meeting for external participants RRS feed

  • Question

  • I want to be able to set up Live Meeting/Web Conferencing to allow external participants (clients in this case) to join.

Currently when you schedule a meeting the "Join the metting" link and the location is in the format of meet: sip:xxxxx which is only useful when connected to the internal network, or if you previously set up the Live Meeting client to connect to the company network in the advanced connection settings.

Is it possible to set up OCS2007 so that the Location link in the email is an external link? eg. http://www.mycompany.com/lm/ so that clients are able to join a meeting with a single click from an email?

Have a look at the DNS section in the Edge deployment documentation - it describes what SRV records are required.

This won't change the URL format in the email, but it means when a user clicks on 'Join the meeting' it is able to determine what domain it needs to connect to.

    Trent,

I am having the same issue, but we thought we had DNS set up correctly...what exactly did you have to do?  Thanks.

  • Hello,

we also think, we set up everything correctly. If we want to invite an external participant with the outlook addin, we can´t get into the conference. Conversation-ID, key and location are also set. The external "member" clicks the link in the mail and livemeeting starts. Then he gets an message, that he will be connected to the server und that he has to type an his name. If he clicks on "join", we get the error, that none of these typed informations could be identified and that he could not join to this conference.

What should we do to fix this problem and to get an conference between internal and external members??

  • Have you run through all of the validation options available on both your edge and internal servers?

Once I had all of the validations working with no failures (only a few explainable warnings) the conferencing worked like a champ for internal and external members.

There is also a new Best Practices Analyzer for OCS available from https://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=1b90993c-072a-4c84-b385-b76d23b2f27c&displaylang=en which might illuminate issues too.
