CRM 2011 Outlook Client NLB Terminal Server (RDS) farm not synching RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • CRM/SQL single server -  Clients connect via a NLB Remote Desktop Farm (2 x Remote Desktop Servers) - Web interface works fine - roaming Profiles using \\servername\etc....   Standard Windows NLB setup -  2008R2

Outlook client will not sync properly.

It appears that the Outlook client syncs in the background (sometimes - haven't been able to determine when) but it will not sync using manual synchronization or cannot manually track emails etc.

I have updated to SQLCE4 before any clients connects (except CRMAdmin to test).

If we make one of the RDS servers unavailable via the NLB (ie redirect all traffic to a single RDS server) everything appears to work fine.

In the meantime we have disabled the Outlook filters (which there was a central console to do this instead of getting each user to do it).

There is obviously some setting that I am missing.

Have anyone had the Outlook client working via an RDFarm

  • Hello Pete,

I'm a bit unsure how your system is set up. You have a server with both CRM and SQL server and then you have two RDP-servers that you use for clients?

Do the users connect to the Remote Desktop Servers and open a web browser on the server to connect to the CRM or how does that work?

To what address do you connect the outlook client and on what computer is the outlook running?

  • Hi Rickard

SQL and CRM on a single server

2 x RDS Servers configured as NLB farm (separate server controlling the NLB - standard MS NLB)

Clients connect to RDS farm  - (could connect to RDS01 or RDS02 depending on load)

    Web client works perfectly

Outlook Client can be configured and under the tab in Outlook works fine

The issue is Contact and Activity sync.  Initially had the default setting for Outlook filters and somehow they contacts filtered in the background (which is what they should do).  however, cannot manually track or set regarding etc or force a manual sync

If we tell the NLB that of the RDS servers is down for instance and to route everything to the other one everything seems to work - well at least it did when I installed the Outlook client on the 2 RDS servers

Have I explained myself properly ?

I did install/upgrade to SQLCE 4.0 when installing the Outlook client  -  everything is on Rollup 11

  • Hi Rickard

Also, roaming profiles  -  using  \\servername\etc  -  not a mapped drive
