Doing a re-install RRS feed

  • Question

  • I would like to do a fresh re-install of WHS 2011. However, it is now August 2018.  Will it update itself with the updates that are available/needed, or will I only have what is on my installation disc?  I tried to replace WHS 2011 with Windows 10 and even Windows Server Essentials 2016 but nothing is as easy and meets my needs as well as 'ol WHS 2011!

  • hi,
As you know, Windows Home Server 2011 mainstream support ended in the second quarter of 2016.
    you can refer this document:

Microsoft official website does not provide update additional/manually download link for WHS 2011.Install your Windows Home Server and check the update via built-in Windows automatic Update.
you can refer this document about Update Rollup 1,2,3,4:

If you know KB number for WHS 2011, you can try to search it in below website

  • Hi,

I don't know if you ever got an answer to your question, but in mid-September I performed a clean-install of WHS 2011 and I was able to get updates from Windows Update with no issue.  I didn't know how long it would take for the server to update itself, so I searched for updates manually and installed them until there were no more to install.  I searched and installed several times over a 2-day period, and I installed both critical and optional updates just to be sure.

The server is set to install updates automatically now, but since the software is at end-of-support, there may be no more updates to install going forward.

    Hope that helps!
