  • Question

  • I tried to update Office 2003 using OGA - but comes up with validation failed. My Office install has been activated but the MGA diagnostic says it isn't activated. Can you help me out here...I'm confused and concerned that I may have a suspect copy of Office.

  • Moozer,

If you do not have Internet connectivity, or you choose not to activate Office by using the Internet, you can select the “Activate by using the telephone” option. To activate the product this way, follow these steps:

    1) Start any Office program.
    2) In the “Office Activation Wizard”, click the “Activate by using the telephone” option, and then click Next
    3) Read the “Microsoft Office Privacy Policy” page, and then click “Next”.
Note You are not required to read the Microsoft Office Privacy Policy to continue these steps in Microsoft Office 2007. A link to the Microsoft Office Privacy Policy is provided so that you can read it at any time.
    4) In the “Select your location” list, select a country or region. Call the telephone number that is listed on line 2. The customer service agent will ask you for the installation ID and will give you a confirmation ID in return. Type the confirmation ID in the boxes provided.
    5) Click “Next”.
    6) On the “Activation Complete” page, click “Finish”.

Please reference the following KB Article should you have any problems http://support.microsoft.com/kb/903275/en-us.  Here you will find links for various resolutions which you may encounter.  Also reference the following site for various telephone activation centers:  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/326851.  Please re-post here should you need further assistance. Thank you and have a great day!

  • Already done that using internet activation, so an Activation Wizard doesn't come up. When I click on Activate Product in help, it tells me that I already activated Office, so why can I not download updates. I already have SP2 from Office update, but can't go any further. Any further suggestions?

  • Moozer,

Di you open the KB article for actual phone numbers of the activation centers?  Here is the KB article  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/326851.  Curious do you have any Beta and/or Trial versions of Office or Office Stand alone products installed such as Viso?

  • If memory serves the original setup was from a 30 day trial which I converted to full product using a paid for licence. I can't remember the exact details of how I went about this as it was a number of years ago. Never had a problem before. Could that be an issue in this instance?

  • Moozer,

How was your weekend?  Hope well.  You think you converted to a full product a few years ago from a 30 day trial? Usually trial copies were 60 to 90 days but may have been different a few years ago.

Curious did you receive a different copy of Office in the mail when you paid for a conversion or did you receive only the product key in email?  The problem may be you upgraded using the paid for product key. If this is the case I would try to uninstall all of your office and re-install using the new product key.  Also you can review the KB article and call the activation center during regular business hours and speak with them. Please try and back up your files and uninstall MS Office then reinstall it using the paid for product key you recieved after you paid for the full version.  Please post back and let us know how things went.  Thank you and hope all goes smoothly.
