Both Dashboard and Launchpad vanish after some time RRS feed

  • Question

  • My WHS2011 sits in a DMZ separated by a router from the home network. I can ping him only with its IP address but not by its name.

Connecting by RDP also only works using the IP address, the same holds true for connecting to drives C:\ and D:\.

Installing the connector software only works when connecting by the servers IP address and then works for a few days. Then, suddenly both Dashboard and Launchpad under 'All Programs/Windows Home Server 2011' vanish and only the 'All Programs/Windows Home Server 2011' remains, but empty!

This happens on all my clients whether running Win7Enterprise 32- or 64-bit.

Thanks a lot for any ideas on how to resolve this issue!

  • You can add an entry in your hosts file to point to your server. That should help. You'll need to do this on all your clients.

But Windows Home Server isn't designed to be placed in a "DMZ", which is really a separate subnet. Microsoft intends that both the server and all clients will be in the same subnet.

I'm not on the WHS team, I just post a lot. :)
