Homeserver update problem RRS feed

  • Question

  • A few weeks ago I went to Windows update and ever since have been getting the following error message:

    [Error number: 0x8024402F]
See which updates failed to install The website has encountered a problem and cannot display the page you are trying to view. The options provided below might help you solve the problem.
MS tech support has me running in circles and most recently wants me to direct connect the server to the internet (instead of through my router) to access the update site.  I tried, but it appears I cannot connect without changing a lot of settings... Any ideas or suggestions would be welcome!

  • Turned out to be a BitDefender incompatibility issue.  I uninstalled BitDefender and that ended the problem.

  • Open Internet Options.
In the Security tab, select 'trusted sites', and click Sites...
Uncheck "require server verification (https: ) for all sites in this zone."
    Add the following sites:
    http://*.update.microsoft.com
    http://download.windowsupdate.com
    http://update.microsoft.com
    https://*.update.microsoft.com
OK your way out.  Close and restart IE.

Logging into the server and checking Windows Update is unsupported.  You should be using the WHS Console to download and install updates.

  •  Do I assume you have used the button to "Reset" your IE? Have you updated the drivers on the NIC? Uninstall and reinstall the NIC device via Device Manager? What do you get when you do ipconfig /all command?
