System Freezing after OneCare Install RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have had a major issue with my pc so ran the OneCare scan and it picked up some trojan and virus saying they were sever. Removed them from my computer and then decided to go with OneCare trial and if works well will convert over and delete zone alarm suite on my pc.

I deactivated zonealarm after the onecare install from the offered download and then rebooted my machine. When pc starts up I make sure zonealarm is deactive but within 60 secs to 3 minutes of start up the pc just freezes and I cannot use anything, from the keyboard to the mouse.

Had to dig out my laptop to post this message in hope can get support to fix the issue to be able to actually use my PC once again :(

I have read some forum threads about zonealarm issues and doing a safe startup etc, but not sure what to do if I go into setup when sys is starting up.
I do not appear to get the time to totally uninstall zonealarm in the time from the pc starting up, so not sure where I can go from here.

    Very frustrating.

    Any advice?

  • You need to remove Zone Alarm as it is likely a conflict situation. I suggest performing a system restore to before you installed OneCare, remove Zone Alarm and then try installing OneCare again.
You don't mention what operating system you are using, but the following article for XP should help. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/304449/
This help topic for Vista outlines the process for that OS:

If you need help with this, you can contact OneCare support:

  • Many thanks.

I did submit a support ticket this morning before I found the forum :) No reply that side as yet.
In the meantime I had advice from another source suggesting to completely remove OneCare and they try.
Did that and it now works with running just ZA.

Many thanks for your help, it is most appreciated.

  • Glad to read that you resolved the issue. Sorry that you didn't get a reply from support. You may want to check your junk mail or spam folder for the support response, though it will likely offer the same solution that you already arrived upon.
