Vista build 6002 not genuine problem RRS feed

  • Question

  • I've read lots of threads on this subject and I'm going round in circles. My daughter's computer suddenly decided that the Windows Vista version was no longer genuine. I've made several attempts to change the product key but to no avail. Please help.

Here is the diagnostic report -

From a previous post by Noel D Paton:
"This error is usually the result of corruption in the Licensing store - and the solution is to recreate the store.
Please try the below steps to recreate the Store files.  This may resolve the issue.

    1) Open an Internet Browser window.
    2) Type: %windir%\system32 into the browser address bar.
    3) Find the file CMD.exe
    4) Right-Click on CMD.exe and select 'Run as Administrator'
    5) Type: net stop slsvc  (it may ask you if you are sure, select yes)
    6) Type: cd %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareLicensing
    7) Type: rename tokens.dat tokens.bar
    8) Type: cd %windir%\system32
    9) Type: net start slsvc
    10) Type: cscript slmgr.vbs -rilc (It may take a long time for this to complete, please be patient)
    11) Restart your computer twice.
    12) You may be required to enter the Product Key and/or Activate. Be sure to use the Product key on the sticker on the side or bottom of the PC (some laptops may have the sticker located in the battery compartment) To Activate, please use the Activate by Phone option.

Once complete, please post back with a new MGADiag report"
I also see that you have a Volume Licensed version of Office XP on the computer that has been blocked.  While this won't cause the issue you are having with Vista it should be removed from the comptuer as it is a pirated program.  Volume licenses are bulk licenses purchased for businesses and are not sold to private individuals in the retail market.  This version with FrontPage is a widely pirated version.  The license becomes blocked when Microsoft is advised that the product key has been stolen, or they determine that the key has been improperly used.
