Use only a partition or usb thumb drive for server backup? RRS feed

  • Question

  • The only spare drive I have for use as a server backup (just the OS) is a 1.5TB drive...backup uses well under 100GB's...just overkill...was hoping I could use a memory stick or just a partition of a drive for this, but WHS 2011 won't let me.

    Anyone know of a way?

    Thanks!

  • Since Windows Server 2008 R2 backup is picky in its media choices, there is no way around. But otherwise external disks with low capacity should be available for a cheap price. Using more than one disk in change (and relocating at least one to another location) is recommended anyway, to avoid a total loss, if the server gets demolished during backup by overvoltage or similar unnice issues.
