service pack 1

    Question

  • my computer crashed - hard drive failure imminent - I replaced hard drive and am no trying to install the software.  The computer is windows vista which downloaded fine but it will not update to service pack 1 which means I can't use alot of other programs.  It keeps telling me that service pack 1 is succesfully downloaded but the in the updates it says I still need to install service pack 1.  Any helf would be greatly appreciatted.

  • As far as I can see, there are no problems in your MGADiag report.

    This would tend to imply that the problem is with the downloaded files for SP1....

    Try downloading the offline installer for SP1 from here....

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/download/details.aspx?id=30 (it's a VERY large file!)

    once downloaded, reboot and run the file - then see what happens.

    (this update should have been installed back in 2008/9!!)

    If that fails, then you may be looking at a repair install or clean install - with proper media.

    Post back with your results. and we'll see where we go from here.
