Vista Ultimate x64 - 0x8007026 - Cannot even login to the system RRS feed

  • Question

  • When I go to type my password and hit enter, the "Welcome" comes up and the wait cursor, or wait "spinning" animation appears and then 30 seconds later I get the Validation error, and click "More Information".

It shows error 0x8007026 I beleive it was.  And says "The service has not started".

The computer and OS was working fine for about a year until recently.

The only thing I did was install Windows XP in dual boot (but Vista still worked a few times after that), and then on the Vista side I installed McAfee A/V, and also ran a registry cleanup (which probably caused it).

None the less, is there a work around?

I can't even login to the system, period.

    Thanks,
    Travis

  • Hi Travis,

Yes, I agree with your thinking on the Registry Cleaner.

If you go to the main Vista Validation Forum page http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/genuinevista/threads/, the first link under "Announcements" titled "Fix for ‘Software Licensing service Has Stopped’ on some Vista 64bit systems" contains the Fix that I think will resolve your issue.

Unfortunatly, since you can't login to Vista in Normal Mode, you will need to try the Fix in Safe Mode and I have not tested that scenario and I am just unsure if the fix will work under safe mode.

If that doesn't resolve the issue (and since you can't access Vista in Normal Mode) the only other options, I can provide, are to contact Vista Support at http://support.microsoft.com and see if they can fix the issue or reinstall Vista.

    Hope this helped,

  • Darin,

Thank you much for the prompt response; your answer seems to be very informational to say the least and I believe that it will work out as so stated, I'll have to give it a try tomorrow.

Great job on another (as it appears, due from visualization of your 5+ medals) well answered question!

    Thanks much,
    Travis

P.S.; I'll advise further once I have had a chance to "trial/error" and test the potential/proposed fix.
