WHS 2011 Connector Installation Problems RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi

I'm trying to install the WHS Connector on one of my laptops (Win Vista Home Premium, 32 bit) and I've run into a problem. The Connector installs to about 95% and then uninstalls itself. There is a "The Windows Home Server 2011 Connector has encountered an unexpected error" message. I've tried searching for a solution, but nothing has worked so far. I've tried disabling the firewall and anti-virus, re-installing .Net 4, disabling IPv6, running in safe mode, connecting with the server name, connecting with the IP adress. Nothing seems to work.

I've found this in the ClientDeploy log. It looks like it fails to install ClientCoreX86.exe.

  • In the German home-server-blog two potential solutions have been reported to work:

Solution 1: Download .NET Framework 4.0 and (re)install it manually.

Solution 2: Check task scheduler on the PC for any faulty entries and remove them.

  • Hello everybody

I solved this problem by disabling Windows Media Server.

    Best regards

  • Did all that but still does not work.

    i get this error

    This is a huge problem

Beside the connector failing, the rest works fine: In the network, I can see my whs server, I can remote desktop to it and I can map its drives

What is wrong? I am not the only person with ths problem: Microsoft do something!

Client machineis running Windows 7 ultimate 64bit

  • Can you find any extended related error information in the event log?

What is the status of the TCP Network Sharing service on the client? (should not be disabled)

    Best greetings from Germany

  • Hi,

Got the same problem and solved it like this (I do not know which step did actually work)

    1) Removed the machine from my old WHS v1 Server
    2) Disabled ipv6 on the new WHS 2011 server
    3) Manually changed the of the client domain/workgroup to the new servers one (It defaulted to Workgroup where my old server used MSHOME) before running the installer

I believe the last step finally did it (but step 1 is a prerequisite)
