Any PDF Money Sunset user manuals available? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Are there any print format how-to user documentation sources in PDF or text format for Microsoft Money Plus Deluxe Sunset, or any later version of Money?  I have a Dummies book on the way but need some basic instructions for entering bank account information.

    Thanks,

    Ed S.

  • The above link has some installation instructions regarding the .chm file. It states that you should create a shortcut

to the help file, so you can easily access it .

In fact, you can replace the existing help file with the file you downloaded from the link and get Money to display it.

For the Money UK 2005, the help file shipped with the product is called msnev3.chm and is located on the WebCache

subdirectory under MNYCoreFiles. Therefore, to replace this with the newly downloaded help from the link shown above,

    1. Download .cab file from the above link and then open downloaded file to show MSMoney.chm file.

    2. Save this .CHM file to the location where your existing Money product help is.

    3. Rename the existing product help file to .OLD

    4. Rename the newly saved .chm on the product subdirectory to whatever the originally shipped help file was called.

Now when you use the Help option to display help, you will display the extended help you downloaded.

Also, for Money 2005 UK there is a 122 page pdf users guide called guide.pdf which is located on the top level product

folder (usually Program Files\Microsoft Money 2005).

  • No.

    Inside Money, try Help->MicrosoftMoneyHelp

I suggest you avoid "Essential accounts" and use the "Advanced". I know that seems counter-intuitive, but the regular users use "Advanced".

There is a sample.mny in your Money install folder that you could open and inspect.

If your bank offers downloads of OFX or Quicken format files, I suggest you File->Import such a file. Then answer the questions (fill in the blanks), and your bank account will be set up.

When you create a Money file, do not attempt to use a Live ID. If you put a password on the file, do not lose the password.

Early I would suggest you click Shortcuts....  at the top of the screen and add shortcut icons for the AccountList and Portfolio. There may be other such shortcuts that you will want to add.

    In Tools->Settings->BackupSettings
    I suggest checking
x Automatically backup my Money file every time I close Money
Save in [a place on your hard drive ]
x Ask me before backing up each time*
       x Compress Backup Files
Keep only the _5_most recent backup files [adjust to taste]

x Perform scheduled backups every _14_ days
Save in [a USB flash drive location]
x Ask me before backing up each time*
       x Compress Backup Files
Keep only the _2_most recent backup files [adjust to taste]
    * to let you skip the backup for times that you don't care to do

http://umpmfaq.info/faq.html has information on many cases and issues, but it does not describe how to get started. It has mostly issues with earlier versions of Money, but much would apply to using Money Plus.

Post back with questions that start "How do I ...." if there is something you want to do that you want to accomplish.

  • The help files are at the link.

Bing search does not resolve the link correctly.

  • Solved.  Your link above includes the dot at the end which I didn't notice.  De-dotted it works fine.

  • Thank you to all for the information and links.  I created place holders for the investments.  Starting to populate after reading the import docs.
