  • Hello. What do you see when trying to open damaged file in MS Excel? If you see an error like this:

you should click 'Yes' to allow MS Excel to recover the file. Even if it failed, you may see more detailed information about what's wrong with the file:

If you see something like this, rename .xlsx file into .zip and unzip into temp folder. Then find the file reported in error message (xl/worksheets/sheet1.xml), open it into text viewer and try to find an issue that could be reason on the error. I was able to restore a few .xlsx files in this way. However, this approach may not help in case of a serious damage.

    Regards,

    Joshi
