CRM 2013 On-Premises: User unable to deactivate records (fails silently) RRS feed

  • Question

  • We have a user which cannot deactivate records (seemingly of any entity and of any ownership; even their own).  The user can add, delete, and update records. When they deactivate a record, it proceeds, but fails without any message (i.e. it appears to work, but the record remains Active).

This user account was first added as a "Read Only" user (using the New User Wizard) and then was changed to be a read-write user later.  License is Professional.  Access Type is Read Write.  User can perform updates fine.  Just not deactivation.

Is there some (Hidden) spot where this ability is controlled?

  • There is no special security right for activate and deactivate.  That being said, you might want to see if there are any workflow or plugins that execute on the entity being updated.  It's possible something else is keeping it from being deactivated.

  • Hello Dave,

If user is able to create records, surely he should be able to deactivate them.

Are their any workflows or plugins written when you deactivate the record? If yes, can you try disabling all plugins and workflows and then try.

Also try to give him a system admin role and try if the user is able to deactivate the record.

    Hope it helps!
