Windows Vista Key stopped working RRS feed

  • Question

  • After 3 years, my Dell computer's Window's Vista Home Premium Key no longer works.  I attempted to change the key from the preset key to the key on the bottom of the laptop, but it did not work and it did not give me any other options except to re-enter it, or buy windows again.  It did not offer a phone number to activate a key.  My further research has shown that if the forums don't help, I will have to either call Microsoft and pay a $49 service fee, or buy a brand new copy of windows (that is not considered an upgrade... so it is the full price).

Because the key is not reading as correct, the computer interrupts the software I bought the computer for and the interruptions cause damage to the software results.  Dad was a computer scientist at NASA and he went to Mac's and he is trying to talk me into switching.  I am not quite ready to give up on Microsoft yet.

The error code I got was 0xC004E003
I have not found how to locate and run the "diagnostic program".
