How do I clear a critical error? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have an external drive that I use to back up my WHS.  That drive failed completely today and I got a "critical error" from Windows Home Server the drive had failed.  I have since removed the drive, replaced it with a new one, and am currently making a backup of the server again... but the error is still there and I cannot figure out how to clear it.  The drive that it is warning me about has been removed... so how can I remove the error message?

    Thanks!

  • Hi,
please do not post the very much same stuff in different threads.

I assume I wrote the answer in the other thread now for nothing, since you mention here, that it is a backup drive.
But these disks don't show up in the mentioned registry keys.

Maybe the value IgnoreBackupDown below the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows Home Server\Server Backup may help you (I would test alter it to 1 and reboot the server). Other than that I have no idea, where to start searching.

Good luck and best greetings from Germany

  • Hi,
did you remove the drive in the console on the Server storage tab as well?
In this case you can click on the Network icon and select for that specific error the ignore checkbox.

  • Hello Olaf,

I cannot 'remove' the drive from the server storage tab in the console because it no longer shows up.  When the drive failed, Windows no longer sees it... so it does not show up as a drive on the storage tab.

Regarding your second idea (of checking the box to ignore the error) that, again, is not possible with critical errors.  You can do that with the less-critical (yellow) errors, but not with the critical (red) errors.

I'm still stuck with this "error" popping up even though it's not really an error any longer.  The failed drive is sitting on my desk and is now just a paper weight.  Any idea... ANYONE... on how I can get this error to go away?
