WGA fails for Non-administrators RRS feed

  • Question

  •

It was discussing an issue about how WGA failed when a non-administrator account was used because it didn't have access to the data.dat file used by WGA to complete validation. The post was back in may 2006 and it didn't appear as if anything had been done to fix this issue with WGA (especially seeing as I ran into it in dec 2006).

Has there been any update on this issue?

I checked the data directory which the email indicates you should change so that everyone could write to it and found that mine did indeed have "Everyone" set with write permissions. It didn't give me the counterfeit warning the last time I logged in last night so I am unsure if perhaps the problem was fixed very recently or not.

Can you please run the diagnosis tool (as directed by the posts above) on the NON-ADMINISTRATOR accounts so we can take a look?

    Thanks!
