Windows 7 build 7601 This copy of Windows is not genuine - but it is! RRS feed

  • Looking for help.  Sat down to chek my emails tonight and was faced with "Windows Build 7601.  This is not a genuine copy".  But is is.  It is the same copy of windows 7 that came with my Gateway computer 4 years ago. 

    Jellybean Key Finder identified the following (I could not find he product Key anywhere on the computer or with the documents)

  • That won't do much good - the installed Key is the Default Key, which can never be activated :)

    You need to change the Key to the one on your COA sticker, and activate that.

    Rather than using

    SLUI 4

    at the command prompt, use

    SLUI 3

    and follow the instructions, entering your COA Key on request.

  • The 30 day limit for activation has expired.  You'll want to activate via phone now:

    Click on the Start button and the Search box, type "SLUI 4" and press Enter.

    Follow the instructions, but when asked which service you require by the automated system, do not reply - this should transfer you to an operator, who can help you out.
