CRM Dynamics 2013 On Premise - Problems with Notes on the Case forms RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi we are having major problems with the "Notes" section in the "TabControl" on both the Case/Information and Case/Case forms.

Firstly all notes are showing a created date/modified date of "Invalid Date"

We have managed to track down the field which contains the notes for a case in the database, and all the dates and times in the database look correct, but "NotesControl" seems to be not able to display them.

In some instances, mainly on the "information" form of a case, where we have alot of Notes, with attached documents, sometimes the Notes will open...and when we scroll down...the whole Notes section disappears and it shows that there are no Notes on the Case. This is very frustrating - seems to be a problem in both IE and Chrome.

How can we view the code in "NotesControl" ?

    Anyone else seeing these issues?

Could be a specific issue local to our installation, or is it a bug affecting many users?

Obviously I have used Google/Bing to research any other instances of this issue prior to coming here!

  • Hi all
I think I have a fix for your problems. We encountered the same problem in our CRM2013 on-prem after migrating from CRM on-line. Dates where either shown as "invalid date" or completely wrong. There is not doubt that there is a serious bug in the product. But the work around that fixed it for us was to change the date format on the CRM server to English (US).

    Follow these steps:
    1. Open the IIS manager
    2. Choose .Net Globalization
    3. Change Culture and UI Culture to "English (United States) (en-US)". I don't know if both are necessary.
    4. Apply changes
    5. Do an IIS reset

Bada bing! That fixed our date issue!
Hope it helps other with similar problems.

  • Hi all,

Thank you for using Microsoft Forums and Communities. I have reviewed your post and would like to give to provide you the current status of the issue.

First of all, I am sorry to hear that you were affected by this issue and about your past experience with MS Support in this regards. We very much appreciate and listen to your feedback – it is critical for us and enable us to further improve and build best in class products and services. If you have a product or service suggestion, I would encourage you to always log it at Microsoft Connect platform  https://connect.microsoft.com/ and provide insight to the Microsoft development community about it. Thank you very much in advance.

In regards to your current issue:

the problem occurs in specific scenarios when CRM 2013 is installed on Windows 2012 (not R2) and previous version (e.g. 2008 R2 etc…) and comes from the particular platform configuration rather than from CRM. We have just posted a blog article with the solution on how to address the issue in such affected environments (as the one suggested by Thomas Rath - great job Thomas)

    https://blogs.msdn.com/b/emeadcrmsupport/archive/2014/06/25/dynamics-crm-2013-and-date-time-not-rendered-as-expected-for-notes-related-to-case-records.aspx

I can confirm that in addition, we will releasing an official KB article for this, updating the product documentation and addressing the root cause of the issue in future releases to ensure that it doesn't occur.

Please let us know if the suggested solution works for you too.

Thank you for using Microsoft Dynamics CRM Communities.

  • So nobody else has problems with the Notes on Cases? And no Microsoft Support can be bothered to comment?

  • I am experiencing this same issue. It seems that the notes run out of space and disappear. With cases with less notes, the notes don't disappear. So I've tried altering the space and toggling with 'dynamically expanding' the area - but still, with lots of notes, they all disappear. Any help would be appreciated, thanks..

  • We are still having this problem. Microsoft have spent 4 weeks on it now, with no resolution in sight.

We are seeing "invalid date" on notes field dates

We are seeing dates and times in the future (ie today at 6pm when it is only 1pm)

We are seeing all notes on a case showing up as "today" when in fact they were from months ago

    CRM 2013 = useless

    Microsoft support = useless

  • We have to manually write date and creator of the notes. Very annoying.
Another annoying thing with the notes are the lack editing. Both Enter and Shift+Enter closes the note, so no opportunity for a line break. If I want to write short lines I use Twitter. In CRM I want to write informative notes for my coworkers. And that often means multiple lines.

  • I have tried to get Microsoft to fix this on their Connect site, but I need more votes. They seem to be unaware that this is a big issue for us. "Not currently on our roadmap" was the reply

Vote on https://connect.microsoft.com/dynamicssuggestions/feedback/details/811285/bug-invalid-date-on-notes for this to be fixed

  • We are seeing this when we upgraded from CRM2011 to CRM2013 Online. If someone adds a note to a Case record, ALL the notes that were added previously get updated with today's date. HUGE Issue. Related? Any word if Microsoft can fix this?

  • Same problem. What a joke!

I've been sticking with CRM 2011 for fear of the new horrible low-contrast layout and also any particular bugs. Decided to load up a test server this week with our DB in it. This is a big bug! What a shame Microsoft are ignoring it thus far.

edit: I haven't looked at case forms. This is just the regular contact form for me. It does the whole shebang - grabs my focus, scrolls through the notes, then says there are no notes.

  • We have the same issue. Just moved our CRM2013 on-prem from CRM-online. From my view the problem is not only related to notes on cases. I see the same problem on Opportunities. Which makes sense because it's a bug in the notes control. This is the same on all form.

I found out that the date format is not fetched from the CRM personal settings but the data format settings on the local machine. This is off couse a bug. Another issue is that as long as the day is on or before the 12th in the month a date is shown. But it resolving and showing it wrong.

Let's say the note is created on the 4th of June. In CRM this is shown as the 6th of april. We started getting worried then the users were reporting notes on cases with create dates that were before the actual creation of the case!!!!

If the note is created after the 12th on the month the date will be displayed as "Today" in IE. In Chrome it will simply say "invalid date".

MS needs to get their act together and take this seriously. You cant have a notes function that's not showing date correctly.

  • This issue is happening again in CRM 2015 Onpremise edition - however, following the article resolved my issue. But, only in IE and Firefox. Also, I think the Notes entity date/time is determined by the local system Region Format Settings - isn't it? If I change to English US - it shows in mm/dd/yyyy format and if change to English India - it shows in dd/mm/yyyy format. And this works well in IE and Firefox but not on Chrome. Chrome always renders the date in mm/dd/yyyy format for some reason. Any idea what to do for fixing this across browsers or for Chrome?
