Occasionally my home server locks out one of the computers. Super frustrating. Usually I can work around it, but it has now locked out my main media computer and will not let me access any server folders. I've tried uninstalling the connector software and a whole bunch of other things to no avail. I've never been able to add the kids' computer because it has always told me the password is incorrect. And since I first built the server I have gotten messages saying passwords do not match. Major hassle!! I would like to go in and turn everything off about passwords. I don't need them. I'm in the middle of the forest, 20 miles from the nearest town. While bears and racoons have occasionally tried to break into my garbage, they have yet to show any interest in my computers. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
First, you're probably getting locked out because there is some app that is trying to connect with the wrong password and needs to be updated. As for your kids' computer, it might be because the logon name (not the user name) doesn't match a user on the server. See the FAQ post:
How to fix share access issues where user name and password are requested for details.
As to your original question: just enable the Guest account (no password obviously) and set the permissions for that user.
