"Closed Activity Associated View" & Notes RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi all,

when checking activity history for a contact, my users would like some indication in the view that the activity also contains Notes. Is there any way to include that?

  • Hi, Miha.

    1. You have to add bit attribute to activity (for example new_containnotes). Yes means that record has notes, no - that no.
    2. You have to write Plugin to annotaion entity, which will check if the parent entity for annotation is activity and if yes - set attribute new_containnotes of activity to true.

  • Hi Miha,

A possible solution could be to save the number of notes assocaited with the activity in a custom field. You could then add the field to the associated view.

So how do you get the number of notes assocaited with a record? Well a possible solution is demonstrated nicely on the Sonoma Partners blog. Please click URL below.

You could do this either via a plug-in or with script on the activity form.

  • Hi Miha,

You can not customize the "Closed activity associated view" in a supported way. What I recommend is that you create your custom page that displays the required information and link this page in MS CRM using either the Sitemap or the ISV.config file. (Depends on where you want to call your page).

  • Hi Miha,

you can also create a PlugIn on the Execute and RetrievMultiple message to manipulate the underlying FetchXml or Query to extend the information of the activity by the information if there is a note attached.

  • Whem implmenting this, I have discovered that this is only half the answer. Why? Well, activities are actually "Phone Call", etc. But activity history somehow collects all the activities and throws them in a single view. I guess that activity pointer somhow comes into play. So, I need to know how to get a value from "Phone Call" via "Activity" into the "Closed activity Associated view". Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
