Xp reinstallation RRS feed

  • Question

I have a computer that xp professional was originally installed on. At one point I had the operating system reinstalled to XP home edition by a "professioonal". It was done and worked fine until I realized he put a cracked key in it or something not valid anyway.

I have no operating system disks for it as they are lost from moving several times or buried in a storage shed. I  I do have a key on the machine but for only XP home. I had someone who used the XP professional code and put it in the XP home code box. Well as you can imagine big problems. Mainly its real slow!!!! I really want to wipe everything off this computer and reinstall windows. I have a legitimate license key but again its for XP professional. I don't want to buy any new software because the key is valid but i assume I have to install windows xp home. How do I get a free copy of XP and does it need to be professioal as well? Thanks for the help.
