CRM 2011 Online Default Team Name Is Wrong RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I have created a CRM Online system with the organisation name of my choice. The default business unit has the organisation name I chose. However the system has created a default team with a name containing hexadecimal digits - it looks like the same value as the logical organisation name. Surely the default team name should be the same as the business unit? That's what happens with On-Premise CRM.

I tried renaming the team but CRM says you cannot change the name of a default team for a business unit.

This is crazy. What's the point of having team with a name like 123a6ad40a95490db7c13689b48d3c86?

    Is this a bug?

  • This doesn't sound like normal behavior.  I would call support for more info. 877-276-2464

  • Hi,

I have the same problem and was wondering if you found a solution that you could post.  This default business team name looks terrible in reports!

    Thanks!

  • I just checked on an online demo organisation and this definitely looks like a bug to me. The default queue also gets the awful hex format, you are allowed to amend the default queue's name though.

Caratacus, I would log a case with Microsoft.

  • Sometimes Online organizations get a strange name and the default team is just using the same name. If you go to Settings --> Customization -> Developer Resources , what do you see as the Organization Unique Name?

Note that the name of the team takes that same name (the unique name) NOT the display name. In any case, you have no control on the organization unique name for CRM Online, sometimes they are something like "CRMNAorgxxxx" or sometimes it is a GUID. Your default team will also take tahn name regardless of the organization display name.

However, I'm thinking that the default team is mostly used internally by CRM, it cannot be edited anyway and users of that team are managed automatically. So if you want a team that you can manage yourself you should create a new team with a meaningful name and be able to add/remove users from that team. You should not use the default team.

  • I just looked at my CRM 2011 Online instance and it has a GUID for the default team name also.  It appears  that this is intended functionality.  You can feel free to build a substructure though if that doesn't work for you.

  • Hi,

I just hit the same problem with a restored org. After restore, I was able to change the name of the business unit from the previous name to the current value but I couldn't change the name of the default team. If this hasn't changed since the last year, I guess it won't change anytime soon (Vote for this on connect). Just another gotcha to consider while restoring organizations.

  • This is an old thread that I came upon when trying to deal with a similar issue, we use Dynamics CRM 2011 Online.  In our case anywhere we select teams, for instance a team calendar that we use, we see the default team show up as an option that was automatically created based on the name of the organization, a team name such as CRMNAorg76876.  I tried to rename it so people would know what it represents, assuming I could at least change the display name, but not possible.  Is there any way for me to stop this team from showing up when people make selections related to teams?  It's irritating having this meaningless name show up, and since the name can't be changed there is no way to communicate to employees what it represents.

    Thank You
