  • Yes the news is true,... but I think wikipedia is a great site and it will never going to be off from net world.

Microsoft, google and yahoo are internet giants...so according to me if this situations occurs  also then they will certainly take some steps to save wiki (By buying).

There will also a certain chance to create a huge amount of money by ann the death of golden site by Florance Devouard..

  • The news is true, but that wount be happening soon. The creator of Wikipedia, Jimmy Wales is coming to Chennai for Wikicamp on 25th Feb at Tidel Park. The event is being conducted by The Knowledge Foundation and I am one of the organiser for the event. We have also conducted events like Barcamp, Blogcamp, Proto.in etc. For more details about the event, log on to http://www.wikicamp.in.

  • Wikia is backed up by Jeff Bezos, and he in turn leads the "grid computing" model with Amazon Web services. So at worst conditions, they can run with S3 & EC2 directly.

Sometime back, Jason Calcanis ran post on how to monetize Wikipedia of running Google Adsense. Since Jimbo is clear about No-Ads that went under the burner. Google is always interested in wikipedia, and you can see that by putting wikipedia entry into their first page of results in major search queries. With the amount of clusters of PCs, and computing power Google presently runs, Google can support Wikipedia directly

Wild thought, raise to the occassion Billy. Microsoft can get into this on a larger level, and that will completely alter the proposition. Remember, with Novell, they are already looking into Open source and in the past they have acquired few open source companies.  Rumour was that Writely first went to Microsoft, coz, it was developed in .NET and Google gotta stop accounts in the meantime, to convert all the .NET code into python code to go along with their policy of Universal sharing.
