February Security Update for WHS 11 Fails on Install RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello:

It's been years since an update failed on my WHS 11.  Well... I just happened with the February 2020 Security Rollup and .Net update: KB4535102.

Did this fail for anyone else, and is there an explanation or workaround?

    Thanks,

    Thanks for your post!

Please check if you have installed KB4019990, KB4474419 and KB4490628 before you install KB4535102, if not, please install them and reboot.

You may download the updates from Microsoft Update Catalog:

  • Hi RichLocus,

    Thanks for your reply.

We don't need to worry about we had installed the updates before, when we install the updates manually, if they have been installed or not capable for the system, it will pop up a windows that "The update has been installed or not capable for install."

Thanks for your time! If there's any other concerns, please feel free to let me know.

    Best Regards,

I was able to download the three prerequisite updates, KB4019990, KB4474419 and KB4490628 that I will apply before retrying KB4535102.

I included an image below.  All the updates were selected for Windows Server 2008 R2 64 bit.

I didn't see any of these in the last year, but the system wouldn't allow me to search the update history. I had to look line by line in the history. Is the WHS installer smart enough to see that an update has already been applied?  Is there any danger in installing these if they were already installed but I didn't see it in the log?

    Thanks,

  • Anne,

I had been ignoring a failed update for a while now and decided to do something about it.  It turned out to be the same update in this thread.  I tried your solution and it worked.  The only weird thing that happened is that, after installing all of the updates, my server back-up was reset to "not set up".  I went through the motions to set up my server back-up (not changing any parameters) and the back-up job was restored.  It even maintained all of my previous back-ups.

    Thanks!
