When I try to run system restore, or set a rstore point, I get the following error:
system restore does not appear to be functioning correctly on this system
a volume shadow copy service component encountered an unexpecrted error. check the application event log for more information. (0x80042302)
Please repost this in the Windows 7 repair forum - where they will be happy and more able to assist.

Error: 0x80070003the 0x80070003 error is a 'file not found' error - unfortunately it doesn't specify which file :(I would normally expect such an error to be accompanied by entries in the 'Mismatch files' area of the log - but it's not happened here. You should try using the System File Checker to (hopefully) restore the file -
Click on the Start button
type in the Search box
CMD.EXE
right-click on the only file that is found
Select Run as Administrator
- the Elevated Command Prompt window should pop up
At the Command prompt, type
SFC /SCANNOW
and hit the Enter key
Wait for the scan to finish - make a note of any error messages - and then reboot
Visit the Validation site http://www.microsoft.com/genuine and attempt to Validate Windows - again, make a note of error messages.
Reboot.
Run MGADiag again, and post the report, and error messages in your reply.

I have merged the two threads posted in the Windows 7 from by Lawler1965.
Reading these two threads combined gives me a guy feeling that there is some sort of damage to this Windows. And given that the System Restore funtionality has been disabled it is most likely caused by a malware infection. (one of the first things that some Malware tryes to disable, is System Restore)
Thank you,
