Windows Not Genuine Build 7600 Error RRS feed

  • Question

  • After experiencing some computer problems after downloading some software from work, I attempted a system restore which failed.  I was able to reboot the computer in safe mode and get a successful restore, but my computer now has new problems.  It tells me, in the lower-right hand corner of my screen, that my copy of Windows is not valid (Build 7600 error). I've had this machine for six months and I purchased it from Staples. The computer locks up every four hours or so until a dialogue box tells me that I "may be the victim of counterfeit software".  I wrote down my Product Key and followed the instructions on screen to validate the product, but ultimately it tells me to right click my computer menu, choose Properties, and input the Product Key.  Problem is, there is no field in which to do that. It simply says: "Product ID: not available".  I proceeded to download the MGA Diagnostic tool and this is the result I got.  What should I do? As you can see I do have a genuine product ID, etc.

I am unsure why this is preventing you from 'logging on with them'. Non-Genuine issue in Windows 7 do not remove, reduce or limit any Windows funtionality.  The only effect of a Non-Genuine issue should be a black Desktop background with a Non-Genuine message and sometimes a popup message.

If you are experiencing funtionality loss, then the issue is likely a larger Windows issue.  It could be that you have multiple modified/corrupt windows files and one of them just happens to be one that would cause a Non-Genuine message when modified.  In other words, if you are seeing addition issues with using your Windows (aside from a black background and non-genuine messages) then the Non-Genuine issue may just be a side-effect of a bigger problem.

    Error: 0x8007041D

The error means that the Licensing Service couldn't start - the most common cause of this type of error is malware, or an illegal install of Windows.

If you go back to the Validation page ( http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/validate ) what is the EXACT error you get - and what happens when you attempt to use the Validation Diagnostic tool afterwards? NOTE that you should do this using IE, rather than Chrome!

What happens if you attempt to start the Licensing Service manually, through SERVICES.MSC ? it should be set to Automatic (delayed start) - if not, then set it that way, and then try and start it - what error message do you get, if any?

  • Note: the reason the service isn't running is likely because the file that runs the service appears to have been modified in some way (likely corrupted)

    "File Scan Data-->

I recommedn trying the below set of steps to repair the file.

    a. System Scan. The scan will look for bad Windows files and will attempt to repair them, if possible.

    1) Click the Start Button
    2) Type: cmd.exe
    3) Right-click the cmd.exe file and select 'Run as Administrator'
    4) In the CMD window, type: sfc /scannow
    5) Reboot and see if that resolves the issue.
    b. Repairing Windows using System Restore:

    1) Click the Start button
    2) In the Start Search field, type: System Restore and hit “Enter”
    3) Select "Choose Different Restore Point", Put a check in the box that says "Show restore points older than 5 days", select the restore point that corresponds to the date Before you first noticed the issue.
    4) Click the "Next" button.
    5) Reboot and see if that resolves the issue.

If neither of these sets of steps resolves the issue, my only other suggestions would be either to create a (no cost) suport request at http://support.microsoft.com/gp/contactwga or reinstall.

    Thank you,

  • Unfortunately, scannow validates up 25% and quits.  Apparently, when my first system restore failed, all my restore points were deleted, so that is not an option either.  Is there a way to download a non-corrupted copy of sppsvc.exe? I just want to be able to enter my product key and validate my software.

  • I ran the process through IE and got the same result.  All I got was a prompt to enter a product key, but as I mentioned earlier, there isn't a field to enter one.  When I ran SERVICES.MSC, I saw the service was set to automatic, but not running.  When I tried to start it, I got the error: "error1053 the service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion".  If there is a corrupted file, what do I need to do to download a new one?  All I want to do is enter my product key.

  • Hello tmasonheat,

Not sure if what you want to do will work, but it's worth a try:  http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/42776-extract-files-windows-7-installation-dvd.html

  • I am sorry, things are still not working.  I do contract work online and right now this issue is preventing me from logging on with them.  I don't want to lose my job because of a software issue, especially because I paid for a genuine copy of the software.  Are there any other ideas?
