I had lost my product key, so i called Microsoft and paid $10.00 for a new one. Everything was fine until I tried to activate Windows over the internet, and it said that i had entered an invalid product key. I called microsoft to try to active Windows over the phone, and i kept getting redirected. I talked to proabably 10 different people there, and the last guy i talked to checked the product key i had purchased, and said that the product key was valid, and had asked me to look at the disc and tell him what was on it, and he confirmed that it was a OEM disc.
He told me that my options were to either
a) Talk to technical support and they will fix the problem for a charge of $60
or
b) Go to the Microsoft support site, and/or check the Microsoft newsgroups?
I've reinstalled windows a few times on this computer and never had this problem, until i bought the new product key. The last guy at Microsoft I talked to said that he was no technical advisor, but judging by my situation he would guess that it had something to do with the hardware installed on my computer. Does anybody know what is going on here or how i can fix this?

Hello,
Nothing appears to be wrong after reading the diagnostic results. What exactly is the problem you are experiencing. Also have you called Compaq computers? They are actually the ones who will support the OEM software.

I had the same problem last night, and they gave me the same offer for a solution. I talked to our PC supplier and he told me he has been talking to Microsoft about it for about two weeks now. What are we to do? I've reverted back to Windows 2000. If someone's got a solution, please do tell.Wednesday, October 31, 2007 5:18 PM

The problem is that I can't activate Windows. When I'm at the windows activation it says incorrect product key. I haven't called Compaq, this is not the original OS that came on the computer. the origianl OS was Windows ME, I bought Windows XP from a computer outlet and installed it. I have reinstalled XP several times and never had any problems, until I had to get the replacement product key, and now I can't activate Windows.Thursday, November 1, 2007 2:32 AM

TJ,
After reading your Diag results it indicates OEM SLP. OEM SLP doesn't require activation. Can you tell me what exactly verison OS you purchased @ the computer outlet? Also is this the actual Diag results taken from the machine your having problems with with what you recently purchased?
Thank you,
Stephen Holm, MS
