Possible (temp) solution for people monitoring the forums via the iPad RRS feed

  • Question

  • As is well known various things are not possible to do in the forums when using the iPad's browser.

These impossible actions include the ability to delete or move as both require an explanatory text and the submit button. Clicking the submit button in the iPad never works.

One thing that does however often work (not always but often enough for the following to be a valid technique) is the Lock button.,

So, if while monitoring the forums on the iPad you see a post that is way off-topic for the forum it is in (in my case a SharePoint 2010 question in a pre-SharePoint 2010 forum), then Lock it. This means that no-one will spend their time posting off-topic replies to it until such time as you are able to get to a portable and deal with the thread properly.

The threads are easily found because they will be the only locked threads with only one post in them (for the most part - you may not catch the thread quickly enough and then there might be more, however searching through a few locked threads will be quicker than looking through all already read threads for the ones you have noted to be off-topic).

  • Dose report as abuse work? You can report those threads and move them to the off-topic forum later on a PC if you can mark those threads as off-topic.

The following is signature, not part of post
Please mark the post answered your question as the answer, and mark other helpful posts as helpful, so they will appear differently to other users who are visiting your thread for the same problem.

  • It won't. You need to give a reason so there is a submit button involved.

Today I´ve done both Mark as Answer (once) and Locks (Twice). In both cases I needed to access the thread several times in different ways (opening it from the forum seemed to work more often than opening it in My Forum Threads) before either of them worked. The only one that worked right away was the lock of the same thread as the Mark as Answer just after Mark as Answer worked.
