Session ID problem in Web Apps when using CTRL+N or Tabs in IE 7.0 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Our web apps are experiencing problems when Tabbed browsing is used in IE 7.0. It is essentially the exact same problem when CTRL + N was used to open a new window in IE6.0 on XP. Fortunatly there were less number of users who knew about CTRL + N. IE assigns the same session id for all the apps in different Tabs. If same app is opened in different tabs and the user is working on two different clients, IE sends the same session id to the server and server gets confused. Data in the session variables or the database gets corrupted.

Multiple IE Tabs talking to the same IIS with the same session id seems to be the root cause of the problem. Our apps save quite a lot of data in session variables.

    Two questions:
    1) Does Microsoft anywhere recognize that there is a fundamental problem?
    2) What type work-arounds are officially being suggested by Microsoft?
