Windows Live OneCare Icon Change. RRS feed

  • Question

  • To whom ever can help,

Due to the fact that I am color blind,  I need to change the color of the Windows Live OneCare Icons that are placed in the taskbar. I can not distinguish the difference between, the Red, Yellow, And Green, which often causes me to miss important information! Can someone please tell me where these icons are stored at, so I can open them, edit them, and replace. ANY help would be greatly appreciated! I know it can be done, I'm just not sure where at in my computer these icons are stored.

                                                                                                  Thanks In Advance,

NOTE: I am fully aware that these icons are most likely packaged in a .DLL file, and I know how to open and edit files of this type. I just need to location of the correct file!

  • Hi, Darrel. I wouldn't recommend changing the colors via editing a resource file. I suspect that the icons can be found within the winnsnotify.exe file. However, you may then need to edit it each time OneCare is updated...

However, you can see your status by periodically hovering over the icon and a "tip" will appear that includes the current status. Also, when your PC is at risk, you will typically receive a warning message in addition to the icon color change.
